-Don't trust "low sugar" foods. Without FDA regulations on phrases like these, their meanings can be twisted to fit a variety of products. Instead, opt for foods that are sugar-free or don't contain any added sugars.
-Keep your drinks sugar-free. The bulk of sugar for a lot of people comes from what they drink. Soda, sweetened coffee drinks, and sweetened juices add hundreds of empty calories to your diet. They also bathe your mouth in sugar, creating an environment where acids can more easily erode your teeth. Substitute them with water, adding a slice of lime or lemon for extra flavor.
-Don't bother with artificial sweeteners. They lack calories, leaving you unsatisfied and craving more.
-Allow your taste buds time to adjust. If you're accustomed to eating a lot of sugar, other foods won't taste as satisfying at first. Give it time and continue trying foods even if you don't like them at first.
