Individual Dental Coverage - Thinking Outside the Box
For many single people, finding an affordable dental insurance plan can be difficult. This is especially true it the employer that they work for does not provide coverage to them. Traditional dental plans for individuals can be very expensive and they can actually provide too much coverage for some people who don't go to the dentist very often. However, there is a type of individual dental coverage that is a good move for many people.
It's called a discount dental group plan. It is not traditional dental insurance and you should know right off the bat that it is not right for everybody. The way it works is simple. You pay a fee for membership, usually around 120 dollars or so. This fee gets you membership for one year. As a member, you would then have access to a network of dentists that do dental work at a discounted rate, for the members of the group.
The discounts that you receive are significant and the more necessary the dental work is, the more of a discount you will receive. In other words, the procedures that must be done to keep up your general dental health will cost you less than other dental procedures that are considered elective or cosmetic.
These individual plans are great for people who don't go to the dentist very often and are just looking for a way to be able to afford dental work when it is needed. If you do go to the dentist often and require a lot of work through the year, a traditional plan would make more sense for you.
